Zee Avi has got the kind of awe-inspiring voice that makes you want to stay still, just so you won’t miss a note, but her music has such an infectious beat that you can’t help but shake your shoulders! So, what do you do? “Just dance, it’ll be okay…” (Sorry, Lady Gaga reference, got a little distracted.) Anyways, discovered on YouTube, this Malaysian born singer is the latest addition to the burgeoning Brushfire Records label. Avi switches effortlessly between soothing and uplifting, with her hauntingly beautiful vocals gliding over jazz inflected notes or her lilted lyrics dancing along to her ukulele. And not only is this 23 year old, raw talent skilled in the music department, but she even briefly studied fashion design at American Intercontinental University in London! For her, “music and fashion have a lot to do with each other… You wear what you hear.” Zee Avi's self-titled album was released on May 19 and she’s already been on Last Call with Carson Daly and a Starbucks iTunes Pick of the Week. Listen up, folks – she’s definitely one not to miss!

HIC Opens New ROXY Store in Kailua - June 6th, 2008 – Kailua, HI

Hawaii’s leading surf retailer, Hawaiian Island Creations, has opened a new ROXY brand store in the Kailua Village Shops on Oahu’s Windward Shore. HIC celebrated with a Grand Opening event on Friday, May 30th, where guests enjoyed an Hawaiian blessing, ROXY fashion show, and free flowing drinks and pupus.

Renown Hawaiian waterman, Tom “Pohaku” Stone, kicked off the evening with a traditional blessing, which included Store Manager, Erika Ponciano, and her entire ROXY Kailua staff. The event then shifted into high gear with a ROXY fashion show coordinated by Sasha Dominy and featuring ROXY’s Summer 2008 Junior’s, Girl’s and Teenie Wahine lines. Steinlager Beer graciously provided plenty of it’s new product, Steinlager Pure, and the pupu buffet featured tasty delights from neighboring businesses Teddy’s Bigger Burgers, Maui Taco, Starbucks and Jamba Juice. Special guests in attendance included Quicksilver’s Glenn and Meredith Moncata, ROXY Teamrider/Model, Kelia Moniz, Mitch O’Dollier and Kimo Steinwasher of Kaneohe Ranch, along with HIC’s Founding Fathers, Stephen and Jimmy Tsukayama, and CEO Leigh Tonai.

The ROXY Kailua store is HIC’s eighth retail location on Oahu, and its first retail venture featuring a single brand name, ROXY, and catering specifically to a female customer. The 1,000 sq foot store fronts Hahani Street in Kailua’s increasingly trendy central shopping district. The store features a full array of ROXY clothing and accessories, including the ROXY Teenie Wahine line for infants, toddlers and girls.
